ABOUT TICC

Lex

TICC is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space where clients from diverse backgrounds can safely explore their experiences, build insight, and develop tools for lasting healing. Whether you are working through the effects of trauma or seeking support for personal growth, our team is here to walk alongside you on your path toward greater mental stability and quality of life.

OUR STORY

The Trauma Informed Counseling Center was founded with a deep commitment to healing, equity, and high-quality trauma-informed care. What began as the vision of Dr. Lauren Downey has grown into a thriving, Black-woman-owned therapy practice with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, the majority of whom are providers of color. Our growth reflects both the increasing need for accessible mental health services and our dedication to meeting that need with culturally responsive, compassionate care.

At TICC, we specialize in supporting individuals, families, and communities as they navigate trauma, life transitions, and mental health challenges that impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being. Our team is trained across a range of evidence-based, trauma-informed modalities and approaches, allowing us to treat a wide variety of concerns, including—but not limited to—trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.

While our practice has expanded, our core values remain the same. We are grounded in humanistic, strength-based care that honors each client’s lived experiences, identities, and inherent resilience. We believe meaningful change happens when individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered in the therapeutic process.

TICC MISSION

Our mission is to provide trauma-informed mental health counseling services within the Central Kentucky area and beyond that is rooted in anti-racist practice, social justice, and collective healing/care. At TICC we are committed to creating affirming, accountable spaces where individuals—particularly those impacted by systemic oppression—can heal, reclaim agency, and access care that honors their full humanity. We recognize that mental health is shaped not only by personal life experiences, but by structural forces such as racism, discrimination, socio- and economic inequality, and violence. Our work at TICC centers around dignity, safety, and liberation as essential components of healing hidden parts of oneself.
