MEET OUR FOUNDER & CLINICAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Lauren Downey
EdD, LPCC-S, ACS

Lauren Elizabeth Downey, EdD, LPCC-S, ACS is the Founder and Owner of the Trauma-Informed Counseling Center (TICC). A Kentucky native raised in Radcliff, Dr. Downey’s personal and family experiences—rooted in multigenerational military service and lived trauma—deeply inform her commitment to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Kentucky, followed by a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Eastern Kentucky University, where her research focused on trauma-informed education and clinical training.

Dr. Downey specializes in evidence-based, trauma-focused treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and families, and is formally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Since founding TICC in 2018, she has expanded services to include outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient programming, school-based services, and group therapy in partnership with Fayette County Public Schools. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to increase access to trauma-informed counseling for individuals who have experienced significant and stressful life events, and to support healing, resilience, and meaningful change.
Dr. Downey shares her vision of TICC as being a key treatment facility for multiculturally competent trauma-informed therapy within Central Kentucky.
