Jodi Brewer, CSW

Clinician

I am an EMDR-trained therapist who is passionate about helping individuals and couples create meaningful, lasting change. My clinical experience includes working in medication-assisted treatment (MOUD) programs, community mental health, correctional settings, and outpatient therapy. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals navigating trauma, addiction and recovery, ADHD, relationship concerns, grief, caregiver burnout, and major life transitions.

Growing up in Eastern Kentucky gave me a deep appreciation for the resilience, resourcefulness, and strength people bring to difficult circumstances. Those experiences shaped my practical, down-to-earth approach to therapy. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as an elementary school educator and served as a medical advocate for survivors of sexual violence. Both experiences continue to influence how I understand trauma, family systems, and the ways people learn, grow, and heal. I believe people make sense when we understand their story. Many of the struggles that bring people to therapy: feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or frustrated by recurring patterns are often rooted in experiences, beliefs, and coping strategies that once served a purpose. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, heal from what has hurt them, and build lives that feel authentic and meaningful.

My practice focuses on the intersection of trauma, ADHD, relationships, and identity. I work with individuals and couples who are ready to move beyond simply coping and begin creating lives and relationships that feel connected, fulfilling, and aligned with their values. Many of my clients are intelligent, capable, high-achieving individuals who have learned how to function, but not necessarily how to feel safe, connected, or at peace. I have particular interests in somatic therapy, EMDR, sexuality and intimacy, couples counseling, attachment, executive functioning, and nervous system regulation. My therapeutic style is collaborative, direct, and action-oriented. While validation and compassion are important, I also believe growth requires honesty, accountability, and a willingness to examine the patterns that keep us stuck. I am not a therapist who simply nods along. I will respectfully challenge you, help you identify blind spots, and encourage you to think differently about yourself and your experiences. For clients who enjoy a more active approach, I often incorporate reflection exercises, communication practice, and practical homework between sessions. I believe we must practice new skills while we are healthy and regulated if we expect them to be available when life becomes stressful. Insight is important, but insight without action rarely creates lasting change.

I provide affirming care for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, those in ethically non-monogamous relationships, and individuals exploring sexuality, intimacy, kink, and relationship dynamics. I also believe good therapy requires cultural humility. I recognize that my perspective is shaped by my own experiences and that understanding yours requires curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn. That is the mindset I bring into every therapy session. I am committed to continually evolve my knowledge, challenging my own assumptions, and adapt my approach to meet the needs of the individuals and relationships I serve. I also believe therapy should be responsive and collaborative. If something isn't working, we'll talk about it. If you're willing to show up and engage in the process, so am I. Some of the best therapeutic work happens when we are honest enough to adjust, experiment, and grow together!

Outside of the therapy office, I enjoy whitewater kayaking, pottery, and spending time outdoors. My hobbies remind me that growth often happens outside our comfort zones and that healing isn't only about surviving difficult experiences… it's also about constantly rediscovering ourselves and finding what brings us joy!
