Alex Smith

My name is Alex Smith, I am a proud Howard University graduate from the Cincinnati metropolitan area. All of my life I have had an interest in making the community a better place through helping people. It was at an early age that I first caught a glimpse of what an impact one can make on another’s life simply by being present with them and listening. I would say that my approach to counseling is definitely an amalgamation of a few different perspectives, but with a strong humanistic core. It was Carl Rogers himself who said that,” Empathy is a special way of coming to know another and ourselves, a kind of attuning and understanding.” As a mental health counselor I place a lot of value in being able to relate to the struggles of others based upon things I have been through in my own life. I would attribute my experiences, my passion for helping others, and my faith as to what has led me to my current role within the Trauma Informed Counseling Center team. Outside of my professional life I am an avid golfer, and cyclist!
